Memorial Day: The Party!!!

Our party was wonderful . . . . and the food was delicious . . . I'd say so, anyways:)
Everyone ready to start eating.

Our plates loaded with hot dogs, chips, jello cup (with a dallop of whip cream and a raspberry on top), and veggies.

Our Frosty Floats . . . delicious!

Our nummy dessert ~ I'll tell you how to make this and the frosty floats tomorrow.

Some of the extra's in case people needed more . . . set on top of a picnic basket . . .perfection!

You can find this printable here.

The apple tile you've seen before . . . I simply added "all american" to it with rub-ons and mod-podged over it . . . simple & cute:)

The table runner is from the bottom of an old white skirt . . . . simply the bottom layer torn off and two pieces cut the same length . . . I actually thought it turned out pretty cute!

There were two different sizes of trifles . . .

This decoration was made from some gauzy navy fabric and some candy hearts sprinkled around it, and the doily tag I made set on top.

The hot dog basket printable is found here.

It was a lovely party . . . and it was pretty cute and frugal, too!

Have a wondrous day:)

Memorial Day: Getting Ready to Party

Saturday I decided I was going to have a party today (Memorial Day).  We could only do stuff with our family, but still, it was fun.  But right now, we're going to talk about getting ready to party!!!

A few of the party supplies.

So I started to plan on Saturday what we were going to eat.

The menu conisted of the following:
Hotdogs
Jello Cup
Veggies & Dip
Chips
Frosty Float
Blueberry & Strawberry Trifle (dessert)

I made the tags for these cups . . . if you would like them, email me here.

The link to the printables for these chip (really french-fry) bags is here.  They are kind of small, but they worked perfect for me.

The link to these is also here.  I loved 'em:)

Some wicker plate things . . . I think you're really supposed to put an actual plate on top of it, but . . . and there was only 8, so the littler kids just got paper plates.

Come back tomorrow to see how the party turned out . . . all the decorations, the food, and everything!!!

Hope you all had a blessed Memorial Day!  Remember those who served/serve our country!

"For such a wish!" ~Greeting Cards~

In English, we read Romeo and Juliet (why o why do we have to read that?).  Anyways, when we were done reading it we had to do a project, and one of the choices was making five greeting cards that had quotes from the play on them.

I had the hardest time trying to find quotes that I could use on a card, that I would then actually use the cards for someone . . . . I think some I might still just tear off the quotes and write something else, but some of them I'll use the way they are:)

The quotes, from top card to bottom card are as follows:

"Farewell, good fellow."
May you be . . .  " . . . so rich in joy!"
"I'll tell thee joyful tidings."
"For such a wish!"
" . . .  a sudden day of joy . . ."

The fourth one down says "Happy Birthday!" inside.
The fifth one down says "May God Bless your Marriage!" inside.

Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!!

Baker's Review Wednesday 7: Mom's Potato Pancakes

We're going directly into the reviews of what people thought of these . . . these are all the people who had them, though:)

"They're really good and they're like hash browns kinda and I really liked them."  Tara (I was rereading this to her and she said "Just write that.  They'll know how weird I am."  :)

"They were so delicious that you should make some more."  Clint

"They're so good that you should make them everyday." Forrest

"These are really good.  I was put the rest of the mixture in the fridge so I could have them for breakfast the next morning, but when I took them out, the potatoes were all brown, so I didn't dare make them . . . that being said: make only as much batter as the amount of stuff you're going to make:)"  Aimee

Short-Version Picture Recipe

1. Make the potato mixture/batter.

2. Fry the pancakes.

3. Serve and enjoy.  (We had leftover ham from my aunt Kathy, so I put that and water into a frying pan and fryed/warmed it up.  It was really good!)

Mom's Potato Pancakes

4 large potatoes, shredded (they can be peeled or not)
1 egg, lightly beaten
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon grated onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Cooking oil

Rinse potatoes in cold water, drain well.  Place in a large bowl.  Add egg, flour, onion, salt and pepper; mix well.  In a skillet, heat 1/4 in of oil over medium heat.  Drop batter by 1/3 cupfuls into hot oil.  Flatten to form pancake.  Fry until golden brown; turn and brown the other side.  Drain on paper towels.  Sprinkle with more salt, if needed.  Serve immediately.

Have a wonderful day and have some good food!!

Remembering . . .

When I was younger, many years ago (or so it seems because I'm not really sure how long ago it was when we last had this), we always had this delicious turkey loaf and gravy.

A while ago while grocery shopping in Fred Meyer, we were on the frozen food aisle and I happened to glance up and see this turkey.  I started talking about it to Mom (how we used to always have it and everything and asked her if this was what it was ~ it was:).  I asked her if we could get it and she said we could!

So we ended up having a meal Monday just like in the old days:)  Except back then I am VERY POSITIVE we did not have the caesar salad!

We got two boxes and it was plenty for our family of 14:)

So there is me remembering the old days (okay maybe not really that long ago, but . . .)

Hope everyone has had an awesome week so far!

Thanks to everyone who leaves me a little love by leaving me comments . . . it is so much appreciated and loved!

So leave me a little love . . . what's something you remember about your childhood days?

This is not color obsession, folks . . .

Yes, I seem to have an obsession love of this color!

I don't know why, but it's such a pretty color - the yellow-y greeny-ness (no, those probably aren't words!!)

So these last two skirts I made have had these colors in them!  I also love the gray with it.  I'm lovin' the wide elastic waistband I used on the flower skirt.  It's so much easier and faster to do and I like that type of waist band better anyways!

Of course, I needed some pockets on my skirts:)

I also have a scarf, which I love, that is that color!

So yes, I do love this color for some reason:)  I actually thought about buying a shirt the other day that was this sort of color, but it ended up being a bit too big.  I guess it was good to get another color other than this color, though:)

Have a wonderful day!

Baker's Review Wednesday 6: Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

These are delicious yummy cookies, best baked at a lower amount of time so later when they're not fresh, they'll still be good and moist.  These cookies make a large batch, so they're great for putting dough in either the fridge or freezer to bake later for fresh cookies more often . . . yummy!!!

Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

4 cups peanut butter
3 cups shortening
9 cups sugar
12 eggs
3/4 cups milk
2 T. vanilla
13 1/2 cup flour
2 T. baking soda
1 T. salt
1 12oz package each chocolate chips, vanilla, butterscotch, & peanut butter

Beat peanut butter, shortning, and sugar until light and fluffy.  Add egg, vanilla, & milk; beat well.  Stir in dry ingredients. Bake 11-13 minutes at 375 degrees.

*Simple, but not, because it's a big batch ~ but yes, still quite easy - We like these kinds of recipes, right!?!*

I bet they would've even had them in the olden days . . . :)

Have a wondrous sunny rest of the week {well, at least Thursday & Friday} but have a wonderful week anyways!!!!!

Ruffle Skirt for Morgan

I made this cute little ruffle skirt for Morgan a bit after Morgan was born . . . love all the ruffles . . . because I tend to like ruffles!!!

Morgan Elaine

I think this was the picture mom ended up using on Morgan's announcement.  I think it turned out really cute . . . vintage suitcase, ruffley skirt, CUTE BABY, etc.

Also, I am planning on and have started making a couple of these ruffle skirts to sale . . . so you should be seeing those on here soon (AJcrazies Blog Sale) and I'll let you know they're on here on the blog!

Have a wonderful & beautiful sunny day!

Baker's Review Wednesday 5: Cinnamon Rolls in a Snap

These cinnamon rolls are delicious, especially considering that the dough is made from a baking mix and milk and that they're so quick and easy to make!  (Obviously homemade cinnamon rolls do not compare, but everything considered . . .)

Here are what some of us thought about these Cinnamon Rolls in a Snap:

"I think they're delicious, especially considering how you make them - they're the best warm, but still good the day after!"  Aimee (Me)

"They were good. They definitely aren't as good as regular cinnamon rolls, but I still liked them a lot." Tara

"They were the best cinnamon rolls I've had!"  Forrest (sounds a little bit overly - dramatic to me, but whatever!)

"They were good."  Clint (boy was this kid talkative - hehe!!)

Cinnamon Rolls in a Snap

4 1/2 cup biscuit/baking mix (Bisquick)
1 1/3 cup milk

Filling:
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened or melted
brown sugar
cinnamon

Frosting:
2 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon maple flavoring, optional

In a bowl, combine biscuit mix and milk.  Turn on to a floured surface; knead 8 - 10 times.  Roll into a rectangle.  Spread with butter.  Sprinkle sugar over butter, then cinnamon.  Roll up from long side; pinch seam to seal.  Cut into 12 - 15 slices; place with cut side down on a greased baking sheet.  Bake at 450 degrees for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden brown.  Meanwhile, combing the icing ingredients; spread over rolls.  Serve warm.

Mother's Day Desserts

We are going to my Aunt & Uncles tomorrow after church, and we have to bring dessert.  Today I made a few different things to bring for dessert.  First I made three Chocolate Chip Cookie Pies.  Then I made a big pan of regular apple crisp and a smaller square pan of gluten free apple crisp (there are people that are gluten free who will be there).  Then, with the leftover pie dough I made mini/individual huckleberry pies, which we had tonight.  They never turn out cute - they always pop open . . . perhaps I put too much huckleberry mixture in the inside - probably:)  Tomorrow morning, a few of us will have huckleberry crepes with the rest of the huckleberry sauce from what I made for the huckleberry pies (that was on purpose because I LOVE huckleberry crepes . . . and if you haven't ever had huckleberry's, you're definitely missing out!).

Thank you all the lovely ladies/moms/aunts in my life who have shaped me to be who I am!  I love you all so much!  I hope you have a very blessed Mothers Day and that you realize what a blessing you really are to everyone!  Happy Mothers Day!

Jean Ruffle Skirt

I started making this skirt last night, and then finished it this morning because we went to my pappa and grandmas last night because it was my grandmas birthday.  I just made a simple elastic jean skirt and sewed a jean ruffle on top.  I think it turned out pretty cute:)

I was going to say this is another skirt I made for Morgan, but I guess I haven't put the other one on the blog yet:)  It'll be on here sometime next week!

Also, I wanted to show everyone another bag someone ordered.  It was a Gray & Pink Copy-Cat Bag  - - it was pretty much the opposite of mine:)  And then, she ordered another one, too!  She must have liked it!  So I still haven't made the other one, but I will as soon as I get fabric.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Happy Mother's Day (a day early)!!!
