Baker's Review Wednesday 1: Pleasing Potato Pizza

I now officially announce to you Baker's Review Wednesday!!!  It's going to be a new thing on my blog - every Tuesday or Wednesday I'll bake something yummy with a new or old - that I haven't told you about yet- recipe and then share it with you and my review of it Wednesday.  Except, if it's not very healthy or good for you, I might not actually eat it (If you're wondering why, read this post). - I might get other people in my families opinion of it and share that with you!  So here we go ~ Baker's Review Wednesday 1!

Today, I made Pleasing Potato Pizza for lunch.  It's a recipe that I just made as I went, so for lots of this, I have no specific amounts.  It was a delicious pizza; a lot different from your normal pizza.  No red sauce, being the main difference - it has potatoes where you'd normally have the pizza sauce!  I think most everyone who tried it enjoyed it, and since I only made one pan of the pizza, a lot of the people wanted more:)  Next time I'll have to make a bit more!

When asked what they thought of Pleasing Potato Pizza, these were some of the responses I got:

"Good.  It was delicious."  - Clint

"I would say it was delicious and reccomend it.  It has a different taste than most pizzas, but everyone else seemed to love it, too." - Tara

"I thought it was good.  It was very delicious.  Tasty."  - Mom

(Those were the only people I went and asked, but I heard Blayne (my cousin who spent the night), say something to the effect of that he should ask his mom to make it or something:)

PLEASING POTATO PIZZA

For the pizza dough crust, I used the recipe we normally use for any homemade pizza we make.

Pizza Dough:

2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. oil
2 1/2 tsp. yeast
1 cup warm water

Toppings:

4 large potatoes, diced
1/4 cup butter
milk
salt
pepper
garlic powder
onion powder
chopped cooked ham -or- chopped slices of packaged ham (I used a mixture of both) (enough to cover the pizza - how much ham do you want?)
green onions (how much onion do you want?)
grated cheddar cheese (enough to cover the pizza - depends on how cheesy you want it)

Mashed Potatoes:
Start by putting the diced potatoes in a kettle with hot water and salt and boil them until tender. When the potatoes are tender, drain water; put in butter and let sit until melted.  Mash potatoes, then add milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until it's the desired taste/flavor.  Make the potatoes really juicy; (I kept adding milk) - they do thicken up as they sit.

Crust: Make the crust, mixing crust ingredients together in order given.  Cover and let raise for 10 minutes.  When 10 minutes are over, spread the pizza on a greased 14-inch pizza pan or jelly roll pan.  Bake in 350 degree oven for 12 minutes.

Ham & Onion Mixture:
Meanwhile, put the ham in a frying pan.  Using a scissor, cut the green onion into the frying pan.  Over low to medium heat, warm up the meat, putting in a about a 1/4 cup of hot water to start with, adding more as it is soaked in.  Just let the ham and onions sit, mixing them together every few minutes.  Sprinkle in a bit of onion powder, if desired.

I added more of both ham and green onion to this after I took the picture.

When pizza crust is done baking, spread mashed potatoes over the crust.  Sprinkle ham and onion mixture over that; then the desired amount of cheese.  Place in 380 degree oven and bake until cheese is melted, potatoes are hot, and the crust is cooked and not doughy.

(My pizzas crust was white and not at all colored, but it was done.  Since it was the first time I'd made it and I wasn't following a recipe, I sliced a piece off when I thought it might be done to try it and see if it was doughy.  The way my dough was could have been due to the fact that I forgot to grease the pan . . . ooops!!!)

Lastly, enjoy!!!!

After I ate my pizza, I wished I would've only had 1 piece of pizza (I had 2 slices), and had a bit of salad with it in place of my second slice, since it would've been waaaaaaay healthier - (I need to think a bit more about what I'm eating . . . ), although I know I would've wanted more because it was good, but  I know I wouldn't have been hungry:)

Have a wonderful day!

By the way, you know that bag I made???  Well, I finished it that day, but I could not get a good picture, and that's why I didn't post it on here - hopefully I'll get a good picture soon . . .

Also, I should have a quick and easy tutorial on here later:)
