Quick French Bread {Recipe}

Quick French Bread

2 1/2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons oil
5 1/2 - 6 cups flour
1 egg white
1 tablespoon cold water

Put water in bowl and sprinkle with yeast and sugar.  Mix for a couple seconds.  Let it sit for about five minutes until you see the yeast get all bubbly on top.

Mix in salt oil and half of flour. (Use the wire whips for these steps - at least for a Bosch)  Add the rest of the flour while using the dough hook.  The dough will still be soft and quite sticky, but it's good like that.

Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a warm wet towel for about 15 minutes.  (For a warm enviroment for the bread dough, put your microwave on for 2 minutes and then set the dough in the microwave for the 15 minutes.)

Divide the dough into two long loaves.  Place both loaves side by side on a greased pan.  Then take a knife and slash the tops of each loaf diagonally.  Allow the loaves to sit for a few minutes while you preheat the oven to 375 degrees.  Bake for 30-35 mintues until golden brown.

Mix together the egg white and water and brush onto cooked bread.  Cook for another 3 minutes.

I made a double batch of this as I wasn't sure how much I needed.  Two of the loaves went in the freezer for another meal.

We had this french bread with barbeque meat balls on top like a sub or on the side.  Both ways were delicious!

This french bread was very good!  And it's awesome because it's easy and quick to make - it only takes a little over an hour to make it, from start to finish!  You should definitely try it - it was so good!
