Crafter's Weekly - week 4: make a child's toy

(sorry this post is up a little late in the day)

Last week we were supposed to make a child's toy as the challenge.  I was not too enthused or excited about this challenge, apparently.

When you start your weeks challenge on Saturday night, I suppose the project was doomed to fail to begin with.  (At least mine, because my mom's turned out!)

Do you need a list of why it's a COMPLETE, totalFAIL?!?!

Nah, I didn't think so . . . but, here it is:

  • It's too wide.
  • It's not tall enough.
  • The wheels & windows look idiotic & stupid.
  • Edges that are supposed to be round or curved are straight or squared.
Yeah, you get what's wrong with it yet?
Any who, I guess it's just learning and the idea does have potential.  It would need to be taller to match it's length, and maybe doors and windows and other decorations should be glued on after, rather than sewing them on?  Yeah, we may work on this and get a cool thing out of it.  Or maybe not.

It was supposed to be for like a baby gift, and you see the ribbon in the back?  It was supposed to be like hung on those ring of baby toys that you put together or something.

Well, I hope all your projects turned out better than mine!!  Link up below!!

Next week we are to make a craft using buttons; fun, fun!!  Buttons are such fun!  We just hope it turns out better than the child's toy one:)  Yes, I do laugh at that like every time I see it.  Like die laughing.  It is HILARIOUS!!
Hope everyone has had a wonderful time crafting:)

Crafter's Weekly - week 3: Sew a bag using fabric you have on hand

This week we were to make a bag/purse with fabric we had on hand. I made a bag that will also be part of The Ruched Collection 2012.  The outside strips were from some fabric I had got a long time ago (when I was younger) to make a purse, that I didn't end up making.  The ruched center strip was just some scrap.  This bag is between the 2 sizes of bags I've made before, and it's for like 8-12 years old (?) probably.  This bag will actually be for a bazaar this year!!  One thing made for the bazaar, now I need to get working on more!!

I want to see what everyone else made - how they used the fabric they had on hand.  Link up below.  The button code is on the side bar.

This week we get to make a child's toy.  There are so many possibilities with this project!!  You can craft children's toys in so many ways:)  And it can be for your children, your grandchildren, brothers & sisters, nieces & nephews, gifts or just for!!

Hope everyone has enjoyed the crafting challenge!!  I know I have and am glad it has made me get something done!!

    Anthropologie Knock-Off: The Ruched Bag

So like forever ago, I mean really, forever ago, I saved this picture of this bag because I really liked it and thought I could maybe make it.  I finally bought the fabric for this bag the other day.  And then I made it on Monday.  Obviously, it's not exactly the same, but it has the same effect as the Anthro one.

How 'bout the price difference?  Obviously mine is only cost of fabric, not time or anything, but still  . . . I kind of like my price better than theirs!!

Inside there are pocket's on each side.  The straps are long for wearing it cross-body.

The design of this bag will be used in The Ruched Collection 2012, probably coming out at a bazaar (Artisan Fair, probably).  So I want your feedback.  Do you like this bag?  Do you like long handles for cross body, 1 short handle, or 2 short handles?

Hope everyone is having a wonderful crafty day!!  Hahaha; today my day was not a crafty day.  I planned on crafting, but then I just didn't feel like it after getting home from school:(

p.s. You may have noticed, but I'm getting my Etsy shop going again.  I will be adding more stuff, a couple things a day.  Go check it out!!

Baker's Review Wednesday 26: Nacho Supreme

These nacho's are like the best ever; as in I think they must be better than Taco Bell's.  Maybe so, maybe not, but anyways, they're DELICIOUS!!  This is a very simple & quick "recipe", but it is what I'm sharing with you this week.

    Nacho Supreme

    tortilla chips
    taco meat
    refried beans
juicy cheese stuff (haha - not really sure what it's called, but you all know what I mean though, right?)
    sour cream
tomatoes, lettuce, and olives, if desired
Put chips on plate, then layer with the rest of the ingredients in desired amount in order given.  Enjoy!!

See . . . very simple, and very delicious!!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!  Let's see what recipes you guys have been making this week . . . link up below.  The BRW button code is on the sidebar.

Also, just to let everyone know, you may have seen a new button below each post.  I put it on my blog so people can easily print recipes.  I've seen some sights that have it, but many do not and it's so much harder to print recipes without it.  So use it - just click any writing you want to delete, and then print out those recipes!!  And then go bake something!!

    Crafter's Weekly - week 2: Knit Something

Last week's challenge was to knit something.  And I said if you didn't know how to knit, maybe your challenge could be to learn to knit:)  I hope everyone had fun!!

I made the It's a Cinch Head Wrap.  I used a variegated yarn -black, gray & white.  Here is the tutorial ~ if you know how to knit at all - just know basics (like me!!) you can make this!

I'm excited to see if anyone else did the challenge this week and to see what they made!!
This week's challenge was good for me, because to start on the challenge, I had to finish a project I had already started knitting, so this week made me get TWO projects done!!  I'll have photos of the first project soon:)

If you joined in on the challenge, link up below.  The button code is on the side bar.

This week's challenge is to sew a bag/purse with fabric you have on hand.  I'm excited for this week, as I love bags, and I have a new design in mind . . . we shall see . . .

Baker's Review Wednesday 25: Cinnamon Streusel Dessert Pizza

This week I made some cinnamon streusel dessert pizza.  I actually made 2 versions; one following the recipes directions, and one that I changed the recipe to make it better.  I will share my recipe with you and the link to the original recipe.

Pizza dough (I used the recipe from here.)
    2 tbsp butter, melted
    Cinnamon

    Streusel:

    3/4 cup all purpose flour
    1/4 cup white sugar
    1/2 cup brown sugar
    7 tbsp butter, melted

    Icing:

    1 cup powdered sugar
    1 tbsp milk
    1/2 tsp. vanilla

    Directions:

Make the pizza dough and set aside to let raise.

Mix together the streusel ingredients, then set aside.

To make pizza, pat dough into a greased jelly roll pan or 12 inch pizza pan.  Perforate pizza dough with a fork (this keeps bubbles from forming), then brush with 2 tbsp melted butter.  Sprinkle cinnamon all around buttered crust.  Top pizza crust with streusel mix, and then another light sprinkling of cinnamon.

Bake at 440 degrees for 13-15 minutes, until crust is done to desired amount.  Mix icing ingredients until it is of drizzle consistency.  If it is too thick, then thin with a small amount of milk until you have reached your desired thinness.

When finished baking, top with icing.  Cut and enjoy!!

Here is the link to the original recipe.

We didn't like the original recipe nearly as much because the streusel was very fally-aparty and it had a weird taste because of the shortening. I think this is really good:)  It's best fresh though - if you're having it like a day later it's good to warm it up for like 10 seconds in the microwave.

Link up your recipe and/or review below.  The button code is on the sidebar of the blog.

Crafter's Weekly - week 1: Scrapbook page that uses fabric scraps

So last week we were to make a scrapbook page layout that uses fabric scraps.  I chose to use burlap on my page.  From this challenge, I found out that you can basically use fabric like you would paper on a scrapbook page - it just gives you a different texture than would paper.

I wasn't that pleased with how my page turned out this week.  I used a sketch for inspiration, but the page still did not turn out how I imagined it would:(  Oh, well, I guess ~ at least I got the challenge done!!!

This week's challenge is to knit something.  Don't know how to knit??  Maybe you can make your challenge be to learn how to knit.  Once you learn how to knit, it is really quite simple!!  I'm excited to see how the project I want to do turn's out!!

Now if you did last week's challenge, link up below!!

Also, if anyone has any ideas of things they would like to see as challenges, drop me a comment and tell me what that would be:)

I'm excited to see what everyone else did using fabric scraps on a page layout!!

The button html code is on the sidebar.
